You have received a prostate cancer diagnosis and want a stronger basis for the decision about treatment. That is an entirely reasonable position. Here are the three options for a second opinion in prostate cancer in Sweden, with a direct comparison of time, cost and objectivity.

What a second opinion means at its core is described on a separate page.
Option 1 – A second opinion via another university hospital
Within the public system you have the right to request that your case is reviewed by specialists at another hospital. In practice this means that your clinic sends your pathology report and biopsy material to a university hospital with specialist expertise in uropathology. The advantage: it is free of charge. The disadvantage: it can take months and requires your existing doctor's involvement to initiate. Availability varies depending on where in the country you are.
Option 2 – A private specialist assessment
You can seek out a private uropathologist or urologist for a new assessment. Several private clinics in Stockholm, Gothenburg and other cities offer consultations for self-paying patients. The advantage: quick and accessible. The disadvantage: you pay the cost privately, and you still get a human assessment with the same inter-observer variability as the original one.
Option 3 – An AI-based second opinion via Spearpoint Analytics
Spearpoint Analytics offers an AI-based second opinion via PCAI, trained on actual patient outcomes and validated in a study of 25,591 patients with follow-up of up to 23 years. The analysis is based on the digitised tissue images that have already been taken. It requires no referral, no new biopsy session and no involvement from your existing clinic. The service starts with a free call. More about PCAI and what the index stands for can be found on a separate page.
